Please visit your nearest VFS office, to submit your documents.
The addresses of the VFS offices can be obtained from this link.
You can avail an appointment with the VFS office for the submission of documents by emailing them suitable date and time. In a day or two you would get a reply from the VFS office, with the date and time.
However you can always submit the documents at the VFS office without a prior appointment. But this requires you standing in the queue which can get quite long sometimes. The trick is to come early in the morning, around 45 minutes before the office opens.
If you have come with the appointment letter, you are let inside after a brief security check. Otherwise you are provided with a token number when your turn arrives and allowed inside the main hall.
Here you can pay the fees at the cash counter and wait for you turn of the token number to be announced or if you have an appointment, your name to be called, and then you will be directed to a VFS representative.
As you take your seat, you can give the VFS representative one of your winning smiles to indicate that you are privileged to be sitting in front of a superstar. The VFS will ask for each of the documents, arrange it in his own peculiar order, throw a question here and there.
If the representative is unhappy and if you are mildly unlucky you may have to run around to get a photocopy or some minor stuff. However if you got up from the wrong side of the bed, it would be better to come the next day after a good nights sleep with the “missing “ documents mentioned by the VFS representative.
If everything is fine, all your documents will be put into a file and handed over to you. All of a sudden the rep will say “Rs 170, pls”. Don’t get shocked (i.e if you didn’t know and that won’t happen if you read this), its not bribe! It’s the courier charges for the movement of your passport from the VFS office to your place of residence, once the official verdicts out on it.
You can always refuse to pay and say that I would collect it from the VFS, but I think its better to pay. The less the interaction with VFS, its better for your health. For acknowledgement, take an additional photocopy of front and back pages of passport.
The VFS rep will put a seal on it and give it back along with a receipt bearing the reference number. This reference number can be used to track your application here.
Armed with the file, you will have to proceed to the biometrics section where a bored looking officer will take a ten-finger scan along with a digital photograph (Smile, if you want to but don’t show your teeth).
Once the officer asks you to hand over the file, your task is done. Rush out of the office!
